EPIC Battle League Finals

After 11 weeks of league play, the final week of The EPIC Battle League is finally here, with our top 8 Thursday tonight and our Saturday Finale on the horizon, I thought now would be a great time to catch you all up to speed on the League!

Thursday Top 8

After all the weeks of play, our top 8 players are playing off this Thursday, due to the restriction of eventlink, we cannot make top 8 in the custom pairings and keep it single elimination. The pairings will be as follows:

Ryan Kruger VS Greg Davies

Rowan Haynes VS Matthew Macinante

James Nicol VS Liam ED

Patrick Collingwood VS Tim Stieler

A huge congratulations to them all, regardless on how they place during Thursday, they will all be walking away with cash. The prizes for top 8 are as follows:

1st wins $200

2nd place wins $100

3rd place will win $75

4th place will win $50

5th - 8th place all walk away with $25

In addition to top 8 this Thursday, our modern community has asked to do their own side tournament, each person contributing their pack upon entry to the prize pool. For more details see either myself (Larry) or Vaughan on the night - details are still being hashed out.

Saturday Finale

Jene from Jene's MTG will be there doing his Buy/Swap/Sell from 9 AM to 1 PM, and although Saturday is a closed event, Jene is open to all customers on the day regardless of their reason for attendance.

Saturday is open to all league participants that achieved an attendance rate of 75% or more, and whilst I could list all their names here for the interwebs, they already know who they are. Regardless of where you placed in the overall league, this is day is to reward our patrons who dedicated the last 3 months to playing modern at our friendly local game store. Entry to the Event is $30 but with the prize pool as high as it is, I think you'll find the price rather inticing

Prizes for Saturday are as follows:
1st Place wins $500 Cash!
2nd Place wins $200
3rd Place wins $150
4th Place wins $100
5th-8th Place wins $75 each
AND everyone else receives $30! - think of it as a free day out

Why the cash back? We operate on full transparency at EPIC Ipswich all the prize support has been calculated based on profit margins for the price of entry every Thursday making the prize pool just over $1000 once you factor the $30 entry. In honesty, The Benevolent Owners, make Modern as cost neutral as possible and running a league of the calliper, the weekly prizes are making us lose money on Modern events (we make up for it in other places). I'm telling you this so you know just how passionate The Benevolent Owners are about this community and how much they want to encourage Magic the Gathering events here at their venue.

Your Friend and Ally,
Lachy

The website got a facelift

It has been busy busy busy behind the scenes here at EPIC Ipswich over the past fortnight. Prep work for the Benevolent Owners shared vacation, juggling the change in the store's layout, new til systems, new television menus, and becoming increasingly popular. This isn't even factoring in the change in menu, or the upcoming events planned. We have been busy and you can trust I'll give you, loyal readers, a store update once we get time. In the meantime, our website has been updated by yours truly. When I first did the original website home page I had the essential elements, with a lot of my working hours, I've been making the website more streamlined and more friendly to our bandwidth. Please note, that the game pages are still to be updated to provide you more information about what we do here. In the mean time, anticipate big things on the horizon. I saw some streaming gear in the offices.... I suspect it will have something to do with videos on the social media end....

Team Cupcake and Why they run Bingo

Bingo has been a staple at EPIC Ipswich since it first opened, originally running 6 Games a week (3 in the morning and 3 at night during weeknights), now it sees over 100 people weekly for our Friday night Bingo and our end-of-month Speed Bingo, a late session after the normal Bingo held on the last Friday of each month. To the surprise of many, EPIC Ipswich merely provides the staff and venue for BINGO, it's actually organised by Shell's Team Cupcake, a not-for-profit organisation. But what is Team Cupcake and what is their mission? How did Team Cupcake come about? Team Cupcake Inc started out with a couple of friends and some family raising money to pay for a beloved friend's secondary cancer treatment. Along their journey, we discovered that there were many other people in Ipswich that need a little helping hand and sometimes just needed to know that someone was thinking of them and cared. And so Team Cupcake became incorporated so that they could help to ease the burden...

The Adventures of a D&D Penguin - a Kids D&D Game

Say what you like about the mind of a child, there is no denying the imagination we had as kids vastly changes as we all come into adulthood. For me it’s something I feel is a loss – I could spend hours in the backyard of my childhood home, swinging sticks like they were swords, lightsabers, magic wands or a wizard’s staff. Nowadays I spend time imagining social interactions in my head, playing out a scenario in my head on drives between places or as I make my morning coffee, comparably less cool than being a freaking wizard! The fact I still can recall a lot of those games of make-believe around my junior school playground speaks volumes about the impact imagination has on a developing brain. This is one of the reasons I am constantly dumbfounded when I DM (Dungeon Master) a game of  Dungeons and Dragons for kids and they do something truly amazing that ruminates in my mind and happily lives there rent-free weeks after it’s. This, dear reader, is the story of how my  Dungeon...
