Announced earlier in the year was the Dominaria United Jumpstart boosters. These were derived from the popular set (Jumpstart) where players shuffled together two boosters and started playing.
With the discontinuation of Magic the Gathering's Theme Boosters, MTG is introducing jumpstart boosters for each set, replacing theme boosters. Each set will have a total of 10 different themes that players can purchase from jumpstart boosters instead of theme boosters - and no, you don't need to play to the one theme, you can merge two separate theme packs and still play a fully functional deck!
Each colour has 2 different themes in the Dominaria United (DMU) Jumpstart release. The themes are as follows:
- Coalition Corps: White
- Coalition Legions: White
- Mystic Mischief: Blue
- Arcane Mischief: Blue
- Totally Merciless: Black
- Totally Ruthless: Black
- Ready to Attack: Red
- Ready to Charge: Red
- Beast Territory: Green
- Monster Territory: Green
This means you can play against another deck with the same two colour combination and have two completely different decks! It also means more customizability for a quicker game of magic, by shuffling the two boosters together, players don't need to spend half an hour to an hour deck building.
Is jumpstart any good outside of playing? Well surprisingly, I'd be more incentivised to purchase jumpstart boosters over normal draft boosters. Heres everything you get inside a jumpstart booster:
- 1 Theme card that describes the theme of the Jumpstart Booster
- 20 Total playable cards
- 2 Rare cards—one random rare or mythic rare from the main set within the theme's mana colour and one rare that is unique to Jumpstart Boosters
- 2 Traditional foil lands
- 5 Non-foil lands
- 1 Non-foil full-art stained-glass basic land
Of course Wizards of the Coast (MTG's parent company) wouldn't release a new product without guarantee on sales. Theres 5 rare cards in DMU that can only be found in Jumpstart boosters.
